Toyota Wins 2016 Top Safety Award from New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA)

For Toyota, safety of the passenger in their vehicles was always a priority. RAV4 Hybrid and Tacoma were awarded for winter driving capacity. This further led to other technologies that became a standard for most models, involving the Star safety System and Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It doesn’t end here; another Japanese innovation is the Toyota Safety Sense-P which won the Yankee Cup Technology Award 2016 NEMPA. This award was accepted at NIEMPA’s sixth annual conference, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab in Cambridge.

New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) is a regional media group that gives annual awards for excellent vehicles, including the Yankee Cup Technology Award. It recognizes technological constituents that better the driving experience, safety and all done in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology experts.

The Toyota Safety Sense-P package (TSS-P) contains some of the amazing and very useful technologies such as Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection, the Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Auto High Beams for night visibility. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is also very important in this package.

TSS-P is available for both hybrid and the conventional variations of 2016 Toyota RAV4 and 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser. The colorful 2016 Toyota Prius offers a smaller optional package, the TSS-C package, including Pre-Collision System (no Pedestrian Detection), the Auto High Beams and the Lane Departure Alert (no Steering Assist).

Toyota is planning to make the TSS-P a standard for nearly all of its U.S. models and trim levels with the 2018 model year. Maybe it will be available on 2017 models, but we need to wait and see.
