Toyota Setsuna – a Car Made From Wood Without Using Nails or Screws
This unique car from Toyota is made completely from wood an idea meant to last for generations. Toyota Setsuna roadster was exhibited at Milan Design Week (April 12th to 17th). It might look like a puzzle, but is fully functioning. This is an open two-seater vehicle.
The word Setsuna means “moment” in Japanese.

Engineers in Toyota worked on manufacturing this car by using traditional Japanese techniques. “When we created the Setsuna, we envisaged a family pouring its love into it over generations so that the car gains an irreplaceable value,” says Kenji Tsuji, the engineer behind the development of the car. “Setsuna, as concept car is kind of futuristic car and shows futuristic ideas.”

Kenji Tsuji and Toyota’s engineers worked on each piece together by using Japanese techniques called – okuri ari and kusabi, an old school approach. These techniques need no nails or screws.

Designers in Toyota used wood as the primary material for the body of the car, Japanese cedar for the exterior and Japanese birch for the frame. The seats and steering wheel were made from Japanese cypress. Not even a small detail is overlooked.

When you look at the curves of Toyota Setsuna resembles something from the past like wooden boat. The external design consists of 86 handmade panels.
This car looks cool but doesn’t go faster than 28 miles per hour.
