Toyota sells its Five Millionth Certified Pre-Owned vehicle

Many milestones are worth celebrating. Toyota continues to be the leader in Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. Toyota has sold 5 million certified vehicles in the U.S. This makes them the first automaker crossing the prestigious mark. Toyota’s CPO program called Toyota Certified Used Vehicles (TCUV) program was launched in 1996. This meant that Toyota had to pass 160 inspection that include exterior and interior condition and appearance, braking, engine performance, Tire and Suspension system Wear, Electronic System Operation, Transmission and Transaxle Operation. A hybrid is different and they need to pass 174 inspection points which include hybrid battery tests.

The five-millionth CPO Toyota was sold in August to Wenzel family in Fountain Valley, Calif. They owned a 2013 Toyota Highlander, sold by Toyota of Huntington Beach, and it pushed Toyota over the five million CPO sales milestone.

“Achieving this significant milestone exemplifies not only to our CPO program’s effectiveness, but also consumer demand for the quality, dependability and long-term reliability (QDR) Toyota vehicles are known for,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager, Toyota division. “Toyota continues to be an auto industry leader in QDR and resale value as evidenced by a long list of recent third-party accolades from organizations such as Consumer Reports, J.D. Power and Kelley Blue Book.”

Vehicles that are sold with the TCUV mark come with 12 month/12,000 mile defined inclusive warranty. Celebrating the five million CPO, and in honor of that achievement Toyota covered the costs of the Wenzel family’s vehicle, $29,180 in total. Toyota also made a gift of $10,000 to the family’s favorite charity, Family Promise of Orange County. In addition to this, another $5000 to a charity chosen by the dealer, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and a Homeless Shelter for Families.
