Toyota Ramps up Production to Meet Request for Midsize Pickup

Toyota Motor Corporation said that they will invest $150 million in expanding production capacity of Tacoma pickup trucks in Mexico. By 2018, the production will be increased by more than 60,000 trucks annually in Baja California, Mexico. Toyota hopes that with expanding production it can recoup some of its losses. The demand for trucks grows rapidly as Toyota said.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California now employs over 1,100 team members. This expansion in Baja California will create about 400 new jobs. The production for TMMBC now is over 100,000 Tacomas and truck beds annually.
The plan is to produce approximately 160,000 units late in 2017 and early 2018 with three crews operating three shifts per day.

“Demand for trucks has grown exponentially,” said Jim Lentz, Toyota Motor North America CEO. “By leveraging our manufacturing facilities’ availability and expertise; we can be nimbler and better adjust to market needs in a just-in-time manner. We appreciate the efforts of our team members in San Antonio and Baja California plants who continue to deliver not only more volume for our dealers and customers, but the highest quality trucks day in and day out.”

This expansion at TMMBC’s will bring advantage to Toyota buyers and dealers by fulfilling the demand for trucks. On the other hand, this will have a positive effect on Toyota’s supplier partners with the additional volume.
