Toyota Prius Prime Awarded 2017 World Green Car

Toyota Prius Prime was announced the 2017 World Green Car at the New York International Auto Show on April 12th.
This is the second year that Toyota earned the World Green Car title. Last year, the award went to Toyota Mirai.

“It is a great honor to see the Prius Prime named World Green Car,” said Jack Hollis, group vice president and general manager of Toyota division. “For global automakers like Toyota, this award is a testament to our focus on developing products that both stir the emotions and meet the mobility needs of our customers in all corners of the world.”

Prius Prime was chosen from the initial entry list of 12 new vehicles from all over the world. Many things were taken into account: fuel consumption, tailpipe emissions and use of major leading power plant technology (beyond engine componentry) aimed towards developing vehicle’s environmental responsibility.

This is 13th year at the World Car Awards program For Toyota. In 2010, the Toyota Prius had also won the ‘Top Three in the World’. This is for both the World Green Car and also for the overall World Car of the Year category. For 2013 World Car of the Year, Toyota’s GT86 was a ‘Top Three in the World’ finalist. Toyota’s iQ won in 2009 in the same category and Toyota Harrier Hybrid was awarded the 2006 World Green Car.

Vehicles in all award categories are selected and voted by an international jury panel. This jury consists of journalists from 23 countries around the world.
