Toyota Motor Creates 400 New Jobs at Indiana assembly Plant

Toyota continues to grow as motor company worldwide along with its 20-year-old plant in Gibson County. Toyota will add about 400 new jobs at the plant in Princeton, where they will invest $600 million. The automaker planned to use this money to modernize the plant where its Highlander SUV is manufactured. This includes advanced technologies, new equipment, all to make this plant more competitive.

This whole project is planned to start in fall 2019, increasing the number of Highlanders by 40,000 annually. The Highlander has been manufactured since 2009 in Princeton.

“One thing that can be said of this plant, and Toyota in general, is that we’ve grown and we’re not stopping,” said the newly hired Toyota Indiana President Millie Marshall. This project is one of Toyota’s localization strategies. This means building vehicles where they are sold. At the 2017 NAIAS, chief executive officer, Toyota Motor North America, Jim Lentz announced that company would, “invest an additional $10 billion in the U.S. over the next five years. This investment will be used to make the existing plants even more competitive.”

With this Toyota shows its commitment to continue with U.S. investments. The plant in Princeton, Indiana, produced over 400,000 vehicles in the last year, the highest in its 20-year history. “The Highlander has been a great vehicle for our plant and we are excited to deliver even more of them to our loyal customers,” said Millie Marshall, president of Toyota Indiana.  “This is a true testament to our team members and their dedication to producing quality vehicles.”

The debut of the third generation Highlander was at the Indiana plant in 2013. After that, it continued to exceed customer expectations. Additionally, Highlander earned the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ Award that comes from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, for its good crash protection.
