Toyota is exploring Fuel-Cell technology for Semi-Trucks

Toyota, the manufacturer of vehicles, declared that they formed a unit within its U.S. facility for development and research. All this work is aimed to see if it is possible to use fuel-cell technology in heavy trucks. Toyota Motor Corporation’s long-term goal is zero emission for a vast number of vehicles which could be achieved by applying hydrogen fuel-cell technology.

“Toyota has long maintained that hydrogen fuel cell technology could be a zero emission solution across a broad spectrum of vehicle types,” the company said in a brief statement. “The scalability of this technology is enabling the automaker to explore a semi-trailer truck application for a California-based feasibility study.”

This technology is now used in the Toyota Mirai. The manufacturer believes that the system can be used as well in trucks, producing zero emission.  Toyota started with the Mirai, first launched in Japan last year. The Toyota Mirai is going to support a zero emission as a driving solution for worldwide customers. With heavy-duty fuel-cell trucks with zero emission transportation is the answer for the future. All this is followed by fuel-cell buses, which are planned to be launched early in 2017.
