Toyota Camry Number 1 again on ‘Most American’ list
In 2015, Toyota sold 429,185 U.S. built Camry’s in the U.S. Toyota Camry earned the highest place at 10th annual Cars.com American-Made Index. This is not the first award from Cars.com for all American-Made. The Camry ranks the top spot at the Cars.com index for the sixth time.
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 75 percent has a U.S.-sold domestic content.

This is valuable figure because the Cars.com index bases the list on domestic part-content i.e. the parts treated domestic under federal regulations.
Cars.com conducted a poll about the consumers’ reasons for purchasing from an American manufacturer. Out of 1,000 consumers, 53 percent said that they wanted to support local economy.
The Camry is assembled in Georgetown, Kentucky, with more than 270 supplier locations in the U.S. This TMMK is the largest vehicle manufacturing plant in the world. They can produce 550,000 vehicles and 600,000 engines.
“This recognition from Cars.com is a tribute to Toyota employees, not only those at the plant who build the Camry, but the broader Toyota team who design, engineer, market and finance the vehicle in the United States,” said Bob Carter, Toyota senior vice president of automotive operations. “We also support local suppliers and economies, and we have invested more than $6 billion into our Kentucky operations alone, which is growing with our new production engineering campus under construction there.”
The facility is equal to 169 football fields under one roof. Beside Camry and Camry Hybrid, they assemble the Avalon Hybrid, Avalon and Lexus ES 350, whose production started last fall. This is also the first time that Lexus vehicle has been produced in the U.S. Vehicle production began in 1998. There are nearly 8,000 full-time employees. More than 10 million vehicles rolled from Georgetown assembly.
Toyota has a second vehicle on the Cars.com American–Made Index which ranks third, the Siena. It is assembled in Princeton, Indiana.
There are five Toyota assembly plants in the United States which produce vehicle engines, components and parts. On an annual level, Toyota purchases $35.3 billion of parts, components, goods and other services in the United States.
Toyota has nearly 35,000 direct employees in the U.S. involving nearly 25,000 in manufacturing.
