New Toyota Toyota Boosts the Next-Generation Camry with More Power and With a New Look for Sale in Westborough, MA
For Chad Lindon, who has worked for Toyota, Georgetown, KY., for 22 years, the 2018 Camry is the most exciting vehicle that has been launched, and that he has ever seen.

“The 2018 Camry takes it to another level,” said Lindon, a Powertrain production team member. “It catches the eye. It has more horsepower, better fuel economy, and new technology that customers want. That all adds up to more job security and stability for my family.”

Months of enthusiasm followed the production inside Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky Inc. (TMMK), as members of the building team celebrate the launching of the new 2018 Camry.
Toyota Camry was launched in 1983, and has been the best-selling car for the last 15 years.
Camry’s eight generation is coming to dealerships this summer. Designers are casting this car into a sportier form to suit an upgraded slate of engines and are also taking care of a new- entry level model, refined interior, cutting-edge safety and technology, precise steering performance, as well as class-leading fuel efficiency.

“Even as we emphasize feel, handling, and overall driving performance, we’ve created a Camry that continues to improve in the areas of power output and class-leading fuel economy – two things we strongly believe will resonate with our drivers,” said Jack Hollis, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota division for Toyota Motor North America.
The new 2018 Camry will be built on Toyota’s new platform. The name of this platform is Toyota New Global Architecture. It is a part of the cost saving measures undertaken to rationalize the production process.

Lindon and his co worker Maigen Layne are thrilled to see those new models on the road.
As a five-year member of the team, working as safety team leader, Layne says “It’s the best one so far. I’m proud to work on the best-selling car in America for 15 years running. I test drove one of the first 2018 models off the line and I know it will be a big hit.” She is planning to make it her next car, as well.
The 2018 Camry will definitely set the benchmark in the segment of mid-size sedans. Also worth mentioning is the fact that this is the first vehicle in North America designed and manufactured together with Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). This is an all-new approach to the way the company designs, engineers, and manufactures its vehicles. TNGA is going to boost performance of all models. This means increased fuel efficiency, more active handling and a more stable, better feeling while driving the vehicle.

“The launch of the next-generation Camry is important for Toyota in America, and expands the company’s footprint in and commitment to Kentucky,” said Wil James, president of TMMK. “We are proud to be the first in North America to produce a vehicle with TNGA. It’s a testament to the skill and dedication of our team members.”
This next generation of Camry has a smooth profile. There will be new noise, harshness and vibrations, countermeasures that were seen only on luxury models. All the surfaces in the cabin and the materials are premium and soft.
Recently, more than 700 people have been hired at TMMK. This is all in order to support the launch of the new Camry. This number reached over 8,000. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky is the largest plant in the world, which produced 11 million vehicles in 31 years. Camrys make 8 out of the 11 million.
TMMK invested another $1.33 billion in TNGA to modernize production. Over the next five years, Toyota will invest $10 billion all across the U.S. adding to the nearly $22 billion that the automaker has made in the last 60 years.
Looking at the previous year, TMMK produced more than 500,000 Camry, Avalon, Camry Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid, and Lexus ES 350 vehicles. Toyota now has over 100 suppliers who are positioned all across the Commonwealth and employees who live in 80 Kentucky counties.
