The Toyota Mirai Named the 2016 World Green Car

Toyota’s hydrogen-ability car, Toyota Mirai took the trophy as the World Green Car at the New York International Auto Show.

MiraiThe Mirai was on the top between eight vehicles from all over the world. The judging was based on tailpipe emissions, fuel consumption, the use of advanced energy technology and environmental responsibility. In all those categories the Mirai was the winner. It produces zero tailpipe emissions and runs on hydrogen that can be made from composted fertilizer.

All vehicles that were in the award categories were selected and voted by the international jury panel consisting of 73 top level automotive journalists from 23 countries all around the world.

Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of Toyota Division, said that as the Prius changed the world almost 20 years ago, this vehicle, the hydrogen-motorized Mirai is here and ready to create history.

In its 12th year, the World Car Awards program has named the 2010 Toyota Prius as “Top Three in the World” for both the World Green Car and World Car of the Year categories.
