Students Fueling the Future Together with Toyota

Toyota is partnering with Horizon Educational Group bringing the Hydrogen Horizon Automotive challenge. This challenge will be held in 20 schools in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, California. It is an after–school and a semester-long program concentrating on alternative fuels and climate change. Students will be learning through games. New innovators are ready to work with professionals in this field and to share their passion with them.

During this program, student teams will have the opportunity and freedom in building their individual fuel cell remote control vehicles. With this they will have the opportunity in first hand to learn about this type of technology. This program started on August 8th in Torrance California, with teacher training event at Toyota’s offices. It will end in March 2017, when the student teams will run their fuel cell vehicles.

“The Hydrogen Horizon Automotive Challenge provides an opportunity to introduce the next generation of innovators to fuel cell technology,” says Doug Coleman, Toyota’s national vehicle marketing manager. “We hope this challenge encourages students to join Toyota in the effort to create a more eco-conscious and sustainable future.”

Toyota said that the custom-made, mutual STEM curriculum is implanted and based on the design and standard of Toyota Mirai, because of the solutions and experiences which Mirai engineers accomplished during the development of this vehicle. Apart from Toyota’s support, students will also have instructors from innovative Mirai owners. They will also work with Toyota NASCAR Pit Crew members for their final race.

Schools that are participating involve 10 each from Orange Counties and Los Angeles. Many of the schools have largely multicultural background, Hispanic, African-American or Asian American. Through this, Toyota is showing its engagement in supporting innovators no matter the community they are from or their background.

Horizon Educational is committed to supporting significant and fun learning experiences, through adapting many innovative technologies to schools. Horizon will put this learning experience in prospective of how to resolve big issues of the 21st century.
