Moms from Ypsilanti become homeowners thanks to Toyota, Habitat partnership

Two moms and their families got keys to their new homes in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Toyota Motor North America Research & Development (TMNA R&D) joined forces with Habitat for Humanity in Huron Valley to support funding for the renovation of two whole houses. In total, Toyota contributed $80,000. There were more than 300 volunteers who helped with the renovation. All this was done in honor of the 10 year partnership between the two. The ten year anniversary was marked on August 26th.

“The continued commitment of Toyota to help renovate homes is invaluable in our work toward creating affordable homeownership in Washtenaw County,” said Sarah Stanton, Executive Director of Habitat Huron Valley. “Toyota’s investment in our organization has made a tremendous local impact on our communities. Toyota’s strong support has helped us grow from building a handful of houses 30 years ago to renovating 19 houses and providing home improvements to an additional 1,000 existing homeowners this year.”

The ten year partnership between Toyota Motor North America Research & Development and Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley has resulted in 11 renovated or built homes in Ypsilanti, Michigan. They have donated more than $386,000 and around 17,000 hours of volunteer work.

In addition to this partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Toyota is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of its North America Research and Development efforts here in Michigan.

Toyota and Habitat Huron Valley hope to renovate 19 houses in Washtenaw County, intended for local families that have low-income and for individuals who qualified and certified for the Habitat Home Ownership Program, in 2018.
