4 tips to keep your cool in traffic.

There is almost nothing more frustrating than sitting in heavy traffic. As the holiday weekend approaches, traffic is bound to happen. Whether it’s caused by the holiday rush or a motor vehicle accident, being mindful of the below tips can encourage you and everyone in your vehicle to make the best out of any traffic you encounter.

  1. Prepare for your trip. Before hitting the road, check your routes to ensure up to date traffic times and alternate routes if necessary. Prepare for a longer than average drive by checking your tire pressure, filling up your gas tank, and topping off fluids. Additionally, pack enough snacks, waters, and any gaming/reading material for the entire car load of people.
  2. Practice safe driving. When approaching traffic, slow down and leave enough space in between your front bumper and the vehicle in front of you. Avoid beeping, tailgating, weaving, and cutting other vehicles off.
  3. Listen to upbeat, positive music. In a time of stress, listening to uplifting music can help increase your mood. Make a fun playlist of your favorite songs and save your favorite radio stations on your vehicle’s presets to make your driving experience easier.
  4. Take a pit stop. When in doubt, take the next exit off the highway to grab a coffee or stop in safe spot on the side of the road to get some fresh air.
